A reception was held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History for the Emerging Artists Exhibition. You can read my column here to learn more!

I'm excited to announce that I've been accepted into yet another group exhibition, this time at the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History! My painting of Sharon Jones and my mixed media drawing of Billy Preston will join the artwork of many new and established artists.

​Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History Emerging Artists Exhibition
The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History is excited to welcome a first-time exhibit entitled “Emerging Artists” on display through March.  This new exhibit highlights a lot of the new artistic talent in the River Region. It also includes a selection of more recognized artists. The mixture of new and established will give the newer artists an opportunity to learn more about Augusta’s arts community.

The featured emerging artist for the showcase is Chase McKai Young, a 10th grade Greenbrier student. Chase’s passion for art started when she was a little girl. She was inspired by her older sister. Her artworks depict black women in different capacities. Chase says “in one, she is mystifying and a being who is unattainable. In the other she is being oppressed and is struggling to fight back.”
“Emerging Artists” will be on display at the Laney Museum in February and much of March 2023. A reception will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm. Artists will discuss their paintings and offer insights about their artistic journeys.

On Friday, February 3, 2023, the Voices of Augusta reception was held at Augusta & Co., and wow did the CSRA turn out for the event! From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., nearly 100 people came through the doors to enjoy the sounds of BillKarpJazz as they sipped wine, nibbled on treats, and perused the 13 portraits I created to celebrate local-grown talent. It was an amazing night and one I will never forget! Huge thanks to all who attended and to those who bought art.  My heart is overfull!

I am so excited to announce that my portrait of Nina Simone (shown below) was accepted into GRL PWR, a group exhibition featuring artwork that highlights the courage, ingenuity, hard work and power of women for Women's History Month. To learn more, click here to see the Facebook event! 

On Monday, January 30, 2023, Heather Rene Dunaway, Gallery Director with the Greater Augusta Arts Council, and I were guests on The Morning Mix, WRDW's local lifestyle show, to discuss the Voices of Augusta exhibit on view through March 30 at Augusta & Co. downtown! The segment was brief but a great opportunity to get the word out about the show and reception which will be held on Friday, February 3 from 4-6 p.m. Huge thanks to Zayna Haliburton, Cliff Bennett, and the entire Morning Mix crew!

In late December 2022, my husband Dean and I traveled to the Georgia coast for a little time away from home. I brought along my idea for a short silent film, and together we created my first-ever movie.

​The music didn't come over to YouTube correctly, so it's very scratchy and yucky but sort of fits the mood. I will be working on this and hope to fix it soon.

In the meantime, feel free to mute or play your own music while viewing!

In "Oblivion," a man is haunted by his mortality. Dean did a fantastic job on this and I'm very proud of this piece.

The opening reception will be held on First Friday, February 3, 2023 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. This is a dream come true for me, and I invite you to come help me celebrate while enjoying wine and light refreshments. Oh, did I mention that the event is FREE? Well, it is!
